How to install the MR2 rack |
Tools required:
A measuring tape, to determine the exact mounting position (not provided);
A five millimeter allen wrench (not provided).
| |
Installation Instructions:
First off, familiarize yourself with the installation diagram and these instructions first to get a feel for what you'll be
doing.
| |
| Step 1 |
Clean and wax the trunklid surface thoroughly.
| |
Step 2
Assemble the MR2 luggage carrier according to instructions.
(See exploded view and parts list, the diagram on the Installation Info menu.)
The use of "cockpit spray" or similar rubber vinyl conditioner will make installation of the rubber deck strips easier. Excessive length of rubber may be carefully cut to length with a pair of sharp scissors.
NOTE #1:
Make sure to place nylon washer between the pressure points of chrome surfaces to prolong the chrome plating.
NOTE #2:
The stainless steel washers are ONLY placed next to the allen screw heads and a chromed surface, to prevent the hard chrome surface from being scratched whilst turning the allen screws. Do not fully tighten all the screws until the very end of the installation procedure.
| |
Step 3
Position the fully assembled luggage carrier over the center axis of the MR2 Roadster trunk. To avoid scratching the
paint, put a towel or cloth on the trunk. While working on the installation it might be helpful to place the empty shipping box in the trunk, so as to keep it open.
| |
Step 4
Hook the lower lips of the deck-strips, complete with rubber, over the lower edge of the trunk. Make sure the rubber is
fitted properly onto the metal deck strips.
| |
Step 5
Carefully push the entire carrier down toward the trunk lid, until the front clips rest on the deck. Pull the entire assembly forward, thus seating the lower clips. If needed, loosen the forward and rear allen screws to their limit of thread (do not unscrew them).
If necessary, the forward allen screws may be all the way undone, to allow the clips to hook over the forward trunk edge.
Make sure the black spacer ring(s) are placed between the two flat surfaces of the metal deck strips. (see exploded view drawing).
| |
Step 6
After positioning the forward clips over the forward edge of the trunk lid, make sure the assembly is positioned evenly
from both edges of the trunk. Only after proper positioning of the deck strips may the front and rear allen screws be slowly fastened.
| |
Step 7
After the front and rear allen screws have been tightened, carefully try to close the trunk lid.
Careful! Pay close attention to the space between the front edge of the trunk lid and the body of the car. If there is
contact with the clip and the body of the car, raise the lid again and make double sure the front clips and properly seated and installed correctly.
