One of the primary features of Classic-Carriers luggage carriers is that no drilling in the trunk lid is required to install our low-profile carriers.
The carrier may be owner-installed.
Construction and Design
Our new stainless steel carriers, released in 2004, are manufactured using only the highest quality Italian INOX stainless steel tubing. For information about the material itself,
see this Wikipedia page (opens new browser window),
this producer in India, or put INOX into a search engine.
INOX is an abbreviation for "inossidabile" related to steel.
The chrome luggage carriers are constructed of chromed tubing with hand-brazed joints to provide maximum strength with a clean appearance.
The chroming meets the highest standard possible for outdoor use, ASTM 9, and is warranted (with normal use and maintenance) against corrosion for two years.
The trunk-lid mounting strips and fasteners are stainless steel.
The rubber cushioning strips that provide metal-to-paint protection are of hypoallergenic "neutral" rubber with no sulfur or additives to effect the clear-coat or the paint finish of the trunk.
The installation of the carriers does NOT require the drilling of holes, thus not affecting paint or corrosion warranties.

In the above photos, the metal straps are slid into the rubber strips, and these rubber strips span the trunk, and where the straps wrap around the trunk lip,
a plastic spacer separates the metal strap and the trunk.
The carrier is designed to be installed in either the "traditional" manner with the "fence" toward the rear, or with the "fence" forward to provide additional protection during front-end collision, with the load on the carrier.
Six integrated belt loops permit the use of most types of tie-down belts for even the bulkiest of luggage.
Through optimal pressure distribution on the trunklid, the carrying capacity permitted is 35Kg max., slightly over U.S. 75 lbs.
